Vavavulva began in October 2017 in Krakow, Poland. Originally, the publication was produced and distributed for free every other month for one calendar year across Europe, USA and Argentina. Handmade collages were xerox copied in black in white and were initially named after an anonymous woman of Polish origin. The intent was to create a physical object to communicate ideas and texts regarding different aspects of womanhood—in a physical, anonymous form, that could be cut up, traded, copied and shared in person—not in the world wide web.
The project aims to remain flexible and curious in order to embrace new ideas and tools, while still being aware of the importance and relevance of the past. In a time where digital news is how most humans obtain knowledge, printed matter still belongs to the human hand as well as human history. A printed resource filled with educational material for women of all ages is beneficial in spreading knowledge and generating awareness. In fact, it is essential.
